Whole Heart by Passion Music

MY REVIEW:

Due to my less than stellar internet connection because of my rural location, I had some difficulty streaming the music on my computer. For that reason I was unable to listen to the album as much as I would have liked. I usually prefer to listen to new CDs in my car as I drive and tend to listen to them over and over until they become like old friends. I definitely look forward to getting my hands on a hard copy of this album so I can do that very thing in the near future.

“Whole Heart” is pretty much what I expected from Passion Music. After all, these are the folks who introduced me to Worship greats Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Charlie Hall, Christy Nockels, David Crowder, and others. The album is filled with wonderful, worshipful songs of the type that easily draws the listener into worship. It is the kind of album that I can find myself easily immersed. Although all the songs are very good, there are several that of course stood out for me. I particularly liked Almighty God and Ghost. God, You’re So Good was a fresh take on an old standard and I loved the duet of All My Hope by Crowder and Tauren Wells. I was somewhat surprise that Matt Redman chose to sing a song from All Sons and Daughters rather than one of his own. His rendition was good but I will always prefer the original version – it is one of my favorites.

For those who love previous Passion Music albums, “Whole Heart” is a worthy addition to their library. I believe new listeners will also enjoy this excellent recording that releases on Friday, February 23.

MY REVIEW:

Matt Redman has been a mainstay in the Christian praise and worship community for a number of years with several of his songs, including Blessed Be Your Name and 10,000 Reasons becoming standards during Sunday morning services. His latest album, “Glory Song” has a lot to live up to and I will say that it comes pretty close.

I have had only a week to listen to the CD before reviewing so I haven’t had a great deal of time to let it really sink in through repeated listening. However there are several songs that I found particularly notable. All Glory, Greatest Hallelujah, and Gracefully Broken were the standout songs for me although most of the others were quite good also. I like the fact that most of the songs focused on worshiping God and the hallelujah theme that seemed to run through the entire album with strong lyrics that seemed to conform to scripture. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that some of the songs began to sound a little alike.

“Glory Song” is certain to become a favorite of many, especially those who are already Redman fans.

Review & Giveaway of The Garden by Kari Jobe

MY REVIEW:

Since Kari Jobe’s Majestic album is one of my current favorites, I quickly agreed to review her latest “The Garden”. Lyrically, the songs are excellent as is Ms. Jobe’s beautifully pure voice. At times, however, my husband and I both thought that the studio background music nearly overpowered her vocals. I suppose that this is definitely a matter of our personal taste but we agree that we much prefer her live worship albums.

“The Garden” is undoubtedly a much more personal and introspective collections of songs than “Majestic” which  is such a powerful worship CD, Despite not being overly fond of what I considered to be overproduced background music, I did find several of the songs to be quite meaningful, especially “Heal Our Land”.

I am positive that as I listen to “The Garden” more and become familiar with its songs, it will grow on me as is often the case. I would, however, love to hear this album in a live setting.

THE GARDEN

Grammy nominated Kari Jobe is the premiere female worship leader in Christian music. Coming off her last live album, Majestic, which featured the worship anthem “Forever” and radio hit “I Am Not Alone,” Kari Jobe has returned to the studio to record her new album, The Garden, full of brand new worship anthems for the church and for personal reflection. Finding inspiration from life’s joys and hardships, Kari leans into the firm foundation of Christ through it all.

Children of God by Phil Wickham

Children of God

MY REVIEW:

Phil Wickham is back and his songwriting and vocal skills do not disappoint. Lyrically, his songs are well crafted and strong. For my personal taste, the music itself is somewhat over-produced and much of it sounds computer generated to me. I much prefer more basic instruments that do not overpower the vocalist but instead enhance the performance. I am certain however that younger listeners will probably be in love with the dance style instrumentation on this CD.

I think my favorite song is Doxology/Amen which opens the CD with worship. I particularly like the new verse Wickham added as well as the entire arrangement. His live youtube performance of the song made me love it even more. Other songs are also outstanding, especially The Secret Place, a duet featuring Madison Cunningham.

Overall, “Children of God” is a strong offering from an established musician. Glad to have Phil back in good health!

A copy of this CD was provided for review by Flyby Promotions.

Phil WickhamPhil Wickham has a new CD out, CHILDREN OF GOD!  The first since his surgery in 2014, to remove a vocal polyp.  He has a new sound and renewed energy in praising God for his complete healing from this life changing, down on his knee’s, surrender to God awakening!

Phil delivers his most personal album to date. Standing on the musical foundation he has built through the years, “Children of God” is at once recognizable as another Phil masterpiece, but with a few new musical twists and turns that make this record a sonic buffet. The album’s first single “Your Love Awakens Me” was played before an audience of thousands on the 2016 Spring Rock & Worship Roadshow Tour alongside Newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Mandisa and more. Phil Wickham’s acclaimed single “This Is Amazing Grace” was honored with RIAA Gold Certification from his 2013 project, “The Ascension” and was BMI’s 2015 Christian “Song of the Year.”

Songs Included on Children of God:

  1. Doxology/Amen
  2. Better Than Life
  3. Your Love Awakens Me
  4. The Secret Place
  5. Wide Awake
  6. My All In All
  7. Starmaker (High Above the Earth)
  8. Children of God
  9. Stand in Awe
  10. Body Mind & Soul
  11. As It Is In Heaven
  12. Spirit of God
