About Christy:
As a worship leader for many years, she has been an integral part of Passion Conferences from its inception in 1997. She’s seen first hand music sweep people into the presence of God in a powerful way. A pastor’s kid, who was born in Fort Worth and raised in Oklahoma, she grew up singing in church. She met her husband, Nathan, in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, Co. They recorded an independent record with fellow worship leader Charlie Hall under the name Sons & Daughters that led to an invitation from Louie Giglio to participate in the first Passion conference in Austin. Christy’s voice gained a national platform when she and Nathan formed the duo Watermark, recording four acclaimed albums before that musical season ended, paving the way for Christy’s solo career. In 2008, the couple moved to Atlanta to become part of Passion City Church where she serves on the worship team with sixstepsrecords labelmates Chris Tomlin and Kristian Stanfill. The following year, Nockels released her acclaimed solo debut, Life Light Up and spent much of the next two years touring with Tomlin and Passion.

MY REVIEW:

I have some familiarity with Christy Nockels from her vocals on both Passion and Watermark projects but have never listened to one of her solo projects before “Let It Be Jesus”. Overall, the album is strong with several of the songs certain to get airplay on Top 40 Christian radio stations such as KLOVE. Christy has a gorgeous and dynamic voice that shines on all her selections. Songs range from the uptempo opener Freedom Song to the more worshipful title song “Let It Be Jesus”. This album is sure to appeal to those who enjoy Passion Worship and KLOVE.

From a personal viewpoint, I would have loved to hear something that made this album uniquely “Christy Nockels”. The talent is obvious and her performance was flawless but I am not sure that I could distinguish any of these songs from those of other female artists of similar talent and style. It is probably just a matter of personal preference but I tend to gravitate toward artists who do not fit the formula that usually makes it to mainstream Top 40 radio play.

That being said – “Let It Be Jesus” is a professionally produced album with strong vocals and lyrics that will definitely be loved by a wide audience.

Vineyard Worship – I Love Your Presence – Review and Giveaway

MY REVIEW:

I was introduced to Vineyard music in the late 1980’s and have had a love for it since I first heard it. I have yet to find any other worship music source that provides quite the same special personal and intimate experience of Vineyard music. I am not disparaging other worship music because I listen to many others but Vineyard music will always hold a special place in my heart.

With a Vineyard music collection as large as ours, it was a given that we would be familiar with the songs on this collection. Many of them date back years and “Isn’t He” written by John Wimber dates as far back as 1980. I really enjoyed the way old favorites were performed by different artists with different arrangements that brought a fresh meaning to each song. I particularly liked the way “Isn’t He” transitioned into an awesome acapella version of “Amazing Grace”.

I LOVE YOUR PRESENCE perfectly met all my expectations for a Vineyard Music collection. As always, the instrumentation was excellent and song choices varied from upbeat celebration to more intimate worship. The only complaint I could find is that my blank cd’s did not have enough capacity to hold all thirteen songs so that I can listen to them in my car. That is a minimal complaint because I can now listen to MP3 cd’s in my car if  I can just remember to record them that way.

For those who already love Vineyard Music, it is a no-brainer, you need a copy of I LOVE YOUR PRESENCE. If you are unfamiliar with Vineyard Music, this collection would be a good way to learn why Vineyard Music has set the standard for worship music for decades.
