Dangerous Waters by Christy Barritt

MY REVIEW:

“Dangerous Waters”, the fourth installment in Christy Barritt’s exciting Lantern Beach Mysteries series, takes a sharp turn towards even more danger for Cassidy and Ty. When Cassidy spots someone who looks very much like a dangerous man from her past, his appearance is different enough that she is not certain it is who she thinks it is. But as strange  things begin to occur around her and a good friend disappears , Cassidy is convinced it is him.

This book is a definite page-turning, nail-biter. The stakes are high and danger lurks around every corner. A few twists and surprises are in store and all’s well that ends well – isn’t it? I have an idea or two of my own about who the person is who has leaked information about Cassidy’s location. I am looking forward to future installments to find out if I’m correct.

This is a great series. Hope you will check it out.

Storm Surge by Christy Barritt

MY REVIEW:

In “Storm Surge”, the third volume of Christy Barritt’s Lantern Beach Mysteries series, heroine Cassidy Livingston is still hiding out, hoping to keep her identity secret until she can testify in an important trial. It’s not as easy as it seems because things keep happening in the quiet little island town and Cassidy just cannot keep herself from getting involved. She has also found herself more than attracted to her next door neighbor Ty Chambers and although she feels guilty about not revealing her secrets, she fears for his safety if she does. Brief glimpses of Cassidy’s history reveal just how dangerous the people looking for her can be.

“Storm Surge” is another fast-paced mystery with touches of Barritt’s trademark humor scattered throughout. An eclectic cast of characters interact with Cassidy and Ty which helps keep things quite interesting. I actually like the slow development of the relationship between Cassidy and Ty but also look forward to the day she can reveal everything to him. A mysterious boat washed onshore is another irresistible case for Cassidy and once again she finds herself in danger as she locates and attempts to help those who arrived on the boat.

Don’t let the romance and humor fool you for one minute. Barritt is a pro at writing nail-biting suspense and this series definitely has its hooks in me. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Credible Threat by Heather Woodhaven

MY REVIEW:

Another page-turner from Heather Woodhaven, “Credible Threat” is one I couldn’t put down until I reached its end. It seemed as if each page was brimming with action and suspense and the plot moved from one dangerous or threatening situation to another. I HAD to know how everything would turn out before I could rest for the night.

Accountant Rebecca Linn’s life has been threatened and authorities are not sure if it is because she is the granddaughter of a federal judge or if she has stumbled across something in her job that someone is desperate to keep hidden. Because of her grandfather’s position, Rebecca is assigned a Deputy US Marshall for protection and to hopefully discover what is going on. As most romance readers know instinctively, Rebecca and Kurt will find themselves strongly attracted to each other but this time her family says “No”.

I can tell you that the plot moves at warp speed, the characters are strong and realistic, there is plenty of action, danger, and suspense with a nice dose of romance, and a few surprises along the way. Anything else you want to know, you will have to get a copy for yourself and learn all the answers the same way I did. I don’t think you will regret it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

NO SAFE PLACE

Rebecca is sure the suspicious evidence she uncovered in her latest auditing case has put a target on her back. But staying ahead of those out to silence her is bringing her dangerously close to Kurt—and putting both their careers on the line. With the attacker closing in, can Rebecca and Kurt survive long enough to reveal the would-be killer’s secrets?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Now Heather spends her days celebrating laughter, adding to her impressive list of embarrassing moments, and raising a family of aspiring comedians who perform nightly at her table. She channels her love for adventure into writing characters who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances–whether running for their lives or battling the insanities of life.

High Treason by DiAnn Mills

MY REVIEW:

I know when I open a book by DiAnn Mills that I will probably be up way past my bedtime reading it. There never seems to be a good spot to stop for the night because I NEED to know what happens next. “High Treason” pretty much met all my expectations and more.

One thing I liked about “High Treason” was that a female CIA operative was placed on a predominately male FBI task force in order to help protect a Saudi Prince and his family after an assassination attempt. Monica Alden certainly had her work cut out for her between her gender, agency differences, and trying to do her job without offending the Saudis because of culture differences. It was gratifying to see such a strong female character who eventually gained the respect of the men she worked with, even one particularly negative Saudi bodyguard.

“High Treason” is a mostly action filled novel with ample suspense to hold readers’ attention and a touch of romance that did not overwhelm the plot. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery along with the characters and loved having some surprises along the way. I am looking forward to more books by DiAnn Mills soon.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When Saudi Prince Omar bin Talal visits Houston to seek cancer treatment for his mother, an attempt on his life puts all agencies on high alert. FBI Special Agent Kord Davidson is the lead on the prince’s protective detail because of their long-standing friendship, but he’s surprised—and none too happy—when the CIA brings one of their operatives, Monica Alden, in on the task force after the assassination attempt.

Kord and Monica must quickly put aside interagency squabbles, however, when they learn the prince has additional motives for his visit—plans to promote stronger ties with the US and encourage economic growth and westernization in his own country. Plans that could easily incite a number of suspects both in the US and in countries hostile to Saudi Arabia. Worse yet, the would-be assassin always seems to be one step ahead of them, implicating someone close to the prince—or the investigation. But who would be willing to commit high treason, and can Kord and Monica stop them in time?

Flood Watch by Christy Barritt

MY REVIEW:

The danger and action keep on coming for Cassidy Livingston who is supposed to be keeping a low profile in Lantern Beach but that girl just can’t seem to avoid getting involved in solving crimes. This time she and neighbor Ty, the handsome ex-Navy Seal, attempt to discover what happened to the man their friend Skye is accused of murdering. The story takes up soon after the end of the first novel in this series. “Flood Watch” can easily be read alone but details provided in the first series book “Hidden Currents” would help readers to understand more of the background on why Cassidy is in Lantern Beach and a little of the history between her and Ty.

As expected, I loved “Flood Watch” and pretty much read it through in one sitting. Now I must wait for the next installment and I find myself a bit impatient to find out what happens next. I love Christy Barritt’s novels because they have just the right combination of mystery, suspense, action, and romance with the perfect amount of her trademark humor to keep things balanced.

If you have not read anything by Christy Barritt, please do yourself a favor and pick up one or more of her novels asap. Her Lantern Beach series would be an excellent place to start but I daresay you will probably be hooked just like me.

Hidden Currents by Christy Barritt

MY REVIEW:

I have been bingeing on Christy Barritt novels lately and now I need to get myself into high gear to write reviews for them all. “Hidden Currents” is the first book in Barritt’s latest series – Lantern Beach Mysteries. As expected, I found myself engrossed in an exciting story filled with danger, mystery, a touch of romance, and plenty of the author’s trademark humor. I just wish I had her imagination!

Who wouldn’t love a story about a police officer living under an assumed name on a somewhat remote island clear across the country from her west coast home – a young woman who is supposed to keep a low profile but cannot resist sticking her nose into the investigation when it is obvious that Sheriff Bozo is unable to solve the murder case. Then there is the attractive ex-Navy Seal next door. They may have got off on the wrong foot but there just may be a few sparks igniting between them.

I loved “Hidden Currents” with all its interesting and  sometimes unique characters, an ice cream truck that seems to have a personality of its own, and a plot that managed to keep me engaged throughout. I really like this series and can’t wait to find out what happens to Cassidy/Cady next.
