MY REVIEW:
I am not ashamed to admit that I love Mary Connealy’s novels! I grew up watching TV westerns with my Dad and have had a weakness for the west and cowboys ever since. I thoroughly enjoy escaping to the Old West through Mary’s novels for a few hours and especially love her strong female characters. “No Way Up” is her latest novel and the first of the new Cimarron Legacy series.
I learned quickly that Chance Boden, owner of the Cimarron Ranch had three children but only the one of them interested in the ranch was Justin who helped his dad run it. Older son Cole lived in town and ran the family mine business from there. Daughter Sadie also lived in town and was committed to helping at the orphanage. When Chance was severely injured in a rock slide, he demanded that Cole and Sadie immediately move back home or they would all lose the ranch at his death. That is where the fun and drama began.
I loved, loved, loved the fact that Heath Kincaid is all grown up and the hero of “No Way Up” and he grew up into a fine young man. (what else would you expect?) Heath was definitely the perfect match for Sadie who had a mind of her own and wasn’t afraid to jump right in there with the menfolk with chores and refused to be left behind on dangerous missions – even climbing cliffs.
The story is full of Mary’s trademark humor, plenty of drama, action, mystery, and suspense as well as romance and kissing – lots of kissing. What is not to like about “No Way Up”? A fun story about family loyalty and faith, this novel left me eagerly waiting for the next installment of The Cimarron Legacy. Hope I don’t have to wait too long!

If Chance’s three bickering adult children, Justin, Sadie, and Cole, don’t live and work at the ranch for an entire year, ownership of the ranch will pass to a despised distant relative.
Before long, however, Heath discovers that the avalanche may have been intentionally set–and that more danger lurks ominously. Finding his own future–and a desired future with Sadie–locked up in saving the Cimarron Ranch, Heath and the Boden siblings must work together against outside forces that threaten them all.

MY REVIEW:
I always enjoy reading Tracie Peterson’s books because I know I will find a well-written historical romance with compelling characters and just the right blend of drama, danger, and suspense to keep those pages turning. It also doesn’t hurt that her research is excellent and I always learn something new with each one of her novels.
The second book in the Sapphire Brides series, “A Beauty Refined” features Phoebe, a young woman visiting Montana with her father, a German count. An unlikely friendship forms between Phoebe and Ian, a local lapidary but a chance encounter with a familiar woman reveals secrets from the past that place them all in eminent danger.
Once again, I stayed up much too late reading because I HAD to know what would happen next. How could one man be so selfish, heartless, and downright evil that even his own family were just pawns in his quest for wealth and power? There just didn’t seem to be any way that the innocent could come out on top this time so although I knew they would prevail, the suspense kept me on edge until the final resolution of the situation.
“A Beauty Refined” is the second book of the series but it easily stands alone. The story also revolves around Montana sapphires but features entirely different characters and situations. I would suggest also reading “A Treasure Concealed” – for the sheer pleasure of doing so and for the background history of the sapphire discovery. Tracie Peterson’s books never disappoint and I highly recommend any of them.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
What does it take to reveal the true beauty of a hidden gem?
Phoebe Von Bergen, the daughter of a German count, is excited to visit America for the first time while her father purchases sapphires in Helena, Montana. Little does she know, however, that her father’s intentions—both for her and the gemstones—are not what she thinks.
Ian Harper, a lapidary working in Helena, finds the dignified young woman staying at the Broadwater Hotel more than a little intriguing. Yet the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that her family story is based on a lie–a lie she has no knowledge of. And Ian believes he knows the only path that will lead her to freedom.
Meeting Ian has changed everything for Phoebe, and she begins to consider staying in America, regardless of her father’s plans. But she may not be prepared for the unexpected danger that results when her family’s deception begins to unravel.

MY REVIEW:
On the surface “Escaping Reality” appears to be one of those escapist romance novels but it is so much more than that. True, there is ample romance to satisfy even the most avid romance addict – but in addition, there are life lessons to be absorbed from its pages. Lessons about faith, trust, and learning to accept God’s plan for your life.
The down-to-earth and realistic characters were wonderful. I loved how accident prone Addie was, especially in view of her famous family and occupation. And Logan, despite his initial strong dislike of Addie, was just too nice a guy to be mean to her. Gramps was special too with his nuggets of wisdom and understated advice scattered throughout the pages.
“Escaping Reality” was easy to read with its steady plot, vivid descriptions, and lively dialogue. I will definitely be looking for more novels by this author.

Rachel Skatvold is an inspirational author and stay-at-home mom from the Midwest. She enjoys writing inspirational romance, devotions, encouraging blogs. Rachel has just finished her first series, the Riley Family Legacy Novellas and is now working on her first full length novel, Enduring the Flames. Other than writing, some of her hobbies include singing, reading and camping in the great outdoors with her husband and two young sons.
Guest Post from Rachel Skatvold:
Have you ever needed to escape?
Every year my husband and I plan our summer vacation several months in advance. We hardly ever plan anything lavish or expensive. Most of the time we just hook up our camper, load our kids and family dog in the truck and head to a state park for our “escape.” Some of our most treasured family times have been enjoyed without television, electronics or other luxuries. It’s refreshing to leave the noise of the city for a while and enjoy a nice walk in the woods or a quiet night roasting marshmallows over a campfire. It gives us time to rest and appreciate the simple blessings that God has given us.
If someone ever needed to escape, it’s Addison Lewis. From the outside it seemed like she had it all; fame, fortune and a handsome and successful fiancé. However, when her dreams of a happy future come crashing down Addison flees her home in LA and ends up stranded at a dude ranch in the Montana wilderness. There she meets a handsome young rancher named Logan and his family. Will the Hart family’s faith and simple ways help Addison discover God’s true purpose for her life?
Escaping Reality is inspired by Mathew 11:28 which says, “…Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” This theme verse is prevalent throughout the story because Addison is searching for a refuge that will provide peace and rest from her stressful lifestyle. However, in the end she discovers that the peace and rest she’s looking for is not a physical destination but a condition of the heart.
Addison and Logan’s story was one of my favorites to write because of Addie’s spunky personality (not to mention her tendency to fall into mud puddles J) and Logan’s courage during hard times. This story might make you laugh out loud and shed a few tears but most of all I hope it inspires you to recognize and appreciate God’s simple blessings. Happy reading, friends and I hope you enjoy reading Escaping Reality.

MY REVIEW:
After I read my first Karen Witemeyer novel, the author moved into the top of my must-read list. Her books are among those I will definitely purchase if I am not offered a review copy. This time I preordered a copy of “No Other Will Do” and also accepted a review copy from Bethany. I remembered my preorder the day it arrived so I ended up with two copies. Still debating about who will be blessed with my extra copy. With two copies in hand, I had high hopes that this book would live up to my expectations. I can happily verify that it even exceeded my expectations.
As always, the plot moved along at just the right rate and included the perfect blend of action, adventure, danger, humor, faith, and of course romance. Emma Chandler’s portrayal as a strong, intelligent woman was tempered with a touch of vulnerability and compassion that helped keep her a likeable heroine. Malachi Shaw was a hero to swoon over. Not only was he a strong, handsome man, but his humility, his loyalty to Emma and dedication to justice made him a man most women could love.
I could tell more about the trials and tribulations of the women of Harper Station as they fought valiantly to hold on to their homes but it would be difficult to do so without spoilers. Believe me when I say I cannot wait to visit Harper Station again and am in hopes that my wait will not be too long.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
A Ladies of Harper Station Novel
She Trusts Him for the Job,
But Can She Trust Him With Her Heart?
Men are optional. That was the credo Emma Chandler’s suffragette aunts taught her and why she established Harper’s Station, a women’s colony that offers a fresh start to females in need. But when a dangerous and shadowy assailant tries repeatedly to drive the women out, Emma is forced to admit they might need a man after all. One who can fight. And there is only one man she trusts enough to ask.
Malachi Shaw has finally earned the respect he’s always craved by becoming an explosives expert for the railroad. Yet when Emma’s telegram arrives, he rushes back to Texas to repay the girl who once saved his life. Only she’s not a girl any longer. She’s a woman with a mind of her own and a smile that makes a man imagine a future he doesn’t deserve.
As the danger intensifies, Emma, Mal, and the ladies of Harper’s Station must choose safety or whether to risk everything to fight for their future.

MY REVIEW:
I always enjoy Tracie Peterson’s novels because I know I will be getting a pretty good history lesson within a romantic and often suspenseful story. “A Treasure Concealed” did not disappoint. Once again the author came through with strong primary characters and just the right blend of drama, romance, and humor.
The Carver family had followed Emily’s father from one gold camp to another as he was convinced the big strike that would make them rich was just ahead – except it never happened. Emily’s mother was dying and Emily was responsible for caring for their home, their livestock, and her mother while he father continued his fruitless labor. Emily’s fondest dream is to have a home of her own where she can spend the rest of her life. Caeden Thibault enters the picture when he camps on the Carver property while performing geological surveys for the government. Because of his family background, Caeden has no interest in marriage or settling down. As can be expected, these two totally opposite young people find themselves growing more and more emotionally attached. Will either of them be willing to give up their dreams?
As expected, I thoroughly enjoyed “A Treasure Concealed”. Caeden was the perfect hero who proved himself time and time again. Emily was a strong female protagonist who proved to be feminine despite the way she dressed to hide it. It was easy to picture life and hardships in the gold fields of Montana where even the weather could turn on its inhabitants. I also enjoyed the spirit-led conversations between characters. I look forward to the next book in The Sapphire Brides series.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
There is more than gold to be found in these hills.
Emily Carver longs to have a home of her own, but instead she endures a transient existence in the gold mining camps of Montana, where her father’s hopes for riches lie endlessly buried. Promises of wealth from this wild land have brought only hardship and disappointment, causing Emily to wonder if her own modest dreams will ever see the light of day.
Caeden Thibault, a young geologist working for the government, is a man trying to escape the pain of his past, and the idyllic mountains of Montana serve his purposes well. In the course of his work, he has seen more than his share of starry-eyed gold seekers. So when Emily Carver catches his attention, he is intrigued by the fact that she isn’t pinning her hopes on striking it rich.
Will an unexpected discovery come between them or draw them together?

MY REVIEW:
I may have read some of her Love Inspired romance novels but was mostly unfamiliar with this author when I chose to review “Back in the Saddle”. When I saw the cover I knew it would probably be right up my alley. I was not disappointed. This book had just the right elements to make it another one of those books I didn’t want to put down. The right blend of drama, family dynamics, mystery, and romance plus well-defined characters held my interest until the end.
When Colt Stafford has little choice but to return home to the family ranch with his finance career in limbo and little cash in his pocket, he is uncertain of his welcome. His father and brother welcome him with reservations after the beautiful new housekeeper Angelina greets him with a gun. As he settles back into life on the ranch, Colt finds himself attracted to Angelina but feels that she is hiding something.
A contemporary version of a prodigal son story, “Back in the Saddle” is an excellent example of restoration, reconciliation, and forgiveness. I enjoyed reading about how the characters worked their way through insurmountable problems and came out on the other side. It was encouraging to see how the Stafford men bridged the gap between themselves and their town as well.
I look forward to the upcoming books in the Double S Ranch series. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This book was provided for review by Blogging For Books.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Prodigal Is Coming Home.
It’s been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Gray’s Glen, Washington. He’s broke, but not broken, and it’s time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.
He doesn’t expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest— a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there’s more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he’s determined to find out what she’s hiding…and why.
Colt’s return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam’s right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn’t thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch’s contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray’s Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor. And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district’s wealth and power—or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?
