MY REVIEW:

Abduction Cold Case quickly caught my attention just a few pages into the book. Not only did the action and danger kick off quickly but I was intrigued by the personal connection of cold case psychologist Kennedy Wells to the case. Could it be a coincidence. Then there was Texas Ranger Silas Boone, on leave from his job and who just happened to be a witness to the original abduction.

As the story progressed, the danger and suspense escalated and unanswered questions increased. Why was the case folder left on Kennedy’s desk? Who wanted Kennedy out of the way and why? Could her parents have lied to her all her life? Answers to these questions and more are found within the pages of this book as well as plenty of unexpected twists and a sweet romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed Abduction Cold Case and look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

MY REVIEW:

Defending Honor is another installment of Eason’s Elite Guardians Collection published by Sunrise Publishing. As expected the action begins almost immediately and doesn’t let up until the end. Plenty of unexpected twists and surprises leave readers wondering who wants to do away with Preston Whittaker as well as anyone close to him. Former Mossad agent Laila Rabbinowitz would like the answer to that also as she is assigned to protect him while trying to stay alive herself.

A page-turner indeed, Defending Honor was everything I expected. Excellent character development and escalating danger made the book an enjoyable read. An unwanted attraction between Laila and Preston added to the mix and it was fun to observe its development. Preston’s personal growth was especially encouraging.

As always I recommend anything by Lynette Eason and I love how she and other established authors are providing new authors an opportunity through Sunrise Publishing.

MY REVIEW:

My first thought when I saw the title of this book was “What an unusual title!” I was not but a few pages in before I was certain I could not read it. After all it had not been so very long ago that we spent six months in a hospice center with my mother where she spent her last days. It was still too fresh and often painful to remember. However, having committed to a review, I persisted and am so glad I did.

The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip was truly an extraordinary story. At times it was very difficult to read due to my own memories but Aidyn and Clara’s interaction was such a profound experience that I think everyone should read it. Despite her obvious daily decline, Clara had such strength of spirit and was determined to fulfill the Lord’s mission to Aidyn before her death. Clara’s own story is one of self-sacrifice as she lived her life for God.

The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip is poignant yet also humorous at times. Mrs. Kip is a character that one would do well to emulate. I wish I had had her as an example early in my life. This is a MUST READ!

MY REVIEW:

I became a fan of Patricia Bradley’s books at my first read. It does help that she is a fellow southerner so she sometimes writes about places with which I am familiar. I have not actually traveled the Natchez Trace but once drove under it near its north end at Nashville. Nevertheless I have always been intrigued with its history.

The fourth and final installment of Bradley’s Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, Deception may be the most exciting one yet. Forced to work with her childhood nemesis park ranger Clayton Bradshaw, Madison Thorn finds herself in the middle of a violent crime spree with her grandfather as one of its victims. It also looks like Madison herself might just be in the killer’s line of sight.  As is often the case, not everything is as it seems and the danger escalates as Madison and Clayton follow a rabbit trail or two in pursuit of their villain. Plenty of action and suspense fill the pages. The plot moves along at a brisk but steady pace with several twists and surprises in store for readers. A touch of romance and a strong message of faith wrap up the story to make a most pleasing package.

I highly recommend Deception but would encourage readers to begin with book one of this series for their own satisfaction.

Chapter 1

SUNDAY, 7:00 P.M.

Laila Rabbinowitz tossed the binoculars onto the passenger seat and stifled a shudder. Jesse Cora, the man she was charged with protecting, had turned out to be a lying creep who didn’t give a second thought about stepping out on his marriage.

Ten showers couldn’t wash off the disgust smothering her like a blanket. But as a professional bodyguard, she didn’t get paid to judge people’s actions.

She just had to keep the man breathing. Once his wife got ahold of him…well, that wasn’t Laila’s problem.

Anabelle Cora was the one footing the bill for the protection detail. The wealthy woman’s fourth husband had received suspicious text messages from an alleged stalker. When his wife had pressed him to be careful, Jesse had dismissed the danger. Worried sick, Anabelle had hired a bodyguard from the Elite Guardians Agency and simply not told him. Covert  operations weren’t Laila’s favorite. She’d done enough stakeouts in her former role as a Mossad agent. Memories sprang up but were instantly dismissed. She’d long since left that life behind after moving to Columbia, South Carolina, to take a job with the Elite Guardians.

“Do not let him catch you following him,” Anabelle had warned her after their first meeting.

“Of course not,” Laila had promised. Which was why she found herself in this unpleasant situation—hiding out in her car, stalking the man she was supposed to protect from a stalker.

Jesse had told his wife he’d be working late but had instead headed to a hotel to rendezvous with a woman who appeared to be a much younger blonde wearing a little black dress and three-inch spiked heels.

Laila sighed. Why wasn’t Anabelle suspicious of a husband that worked late on a Sunday evening? The woman would rather believe her husband was being stalked than admit the truth.

Babysitting the rich and elite ranked right up there with getting a root canal, but Laila had found a parking spot in front of the swanky hotel with an excellent view of the penthouse suite and waited. The hotel looked like it would cost more than her monthly rent for a one- night stay. At least they hadn’t opted for some pay-by-the-hour seedy place.

Movement from the room made her reach for the binoculars. People should close their blinds. Thankfully, Jesse and his mistress didn’t bother. Not that she wanted a front row seat to this show, but another peek through the binoculars confirmed her initial impression. Jesse was a money-grubbing cheat. He crossed through the room and wrapped his arms around the
woman who clearly wasn’t his wife.

Laila didn’t want to watch any more, but she traded the binoculars for a high-powered zoom lens and snapped a few incriminating shots. If Jesse denied his actions, well…

The philandering trophy husband was half the age of Anabelle. Again, not your problem, Laila. Do your job and keep your opinions out of it.

Her stiff shoulders begged for a good workout. What she wouldn’t give to be in the boxing ring at the gym, releasing some of her pent-up energy by sparring with anyone who dared take her on.

MY REVIEW:

I love Christian Suspense novels but I also adore Historical Fiction. What more could I ask than a historical suspense novel, especially one with a Regency English setting. For those very reasons Michelle Griep has become one of my favorite authors and her Blackfriars Lane series meets the criteria.

The Bride of Blackfriars Lane takes up where The Thief of Blackfriars Lane leaves off with Kit and Jackson just days from their wedding. Needless to say, I didn’t get very far into the book before the prospects of a wedding taking place on time, if at all, looked pretty bleak. The plot moved along at a mostly steady pace and was filled with disagreements, danger, rescues, suspense, and plenty of twists and surprises.

I loved the genuine relationship between Jackson and Kit, complete with arguments and reconciliations. The narrative had a strong focus on deception and truth and the importance of depending on the Lord. 

The Bride of Blackfriars Lane was another wonderful book from this author but I’ll leave it to the readers to discover for themselves how everything turns out.

Whenever I skip across the pond, I make it a point to stop at the Borough Market for some great meals. This area was—and is—a popular place to shop and an absolute must-see for food lovers. From grocers, fishmongers, cheese sellers, and butchers to all kinds of ethnic eats, it’s hard not to want to sample everything. My personal favorite are the buddha bowls.

Believe it or not, Borough market has been in operation for the past thousand years. Yes, you read that correctly. It actually began as a bridge, constructed in 990. But let’s fast forward to the Victorian era, shall we?
