MY REVIEW:
I do not usually think of a suspense novel as heartwarming but author Heather Woodhaven has somehow managed to take an action-filled story that is filled with danger and suspense and weave a sweet, comforting thread throughout its pages.
When US Marshal Delaney Patton is assigned to protect murder witness Bruce Walker and his daughter, she has difficulty relating to the child who is the same age as the daughter she gave up to adoption. Little by little the little girl manages to penetrate Delaney’s defenses with her endearing personality. Meanwhile it seems as though their enemy knows every move before they make it and Delaney and Bruce find themselves in a race for their very lives.
I loved this story with all its action, suspense, and surprises laced with a touching romance. It was easy to like the characters and hope for a positive conclusion for them. I will certainly look forward to more books by this author.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Safeguarding the witness…
And his adopted little girl
US Marshal Delaney Patton’s assignment: protect murder witness Bruce Walker and his daughter—a little girl Delaney suspects is the child she gave up for adoption years ago. But before she can explore a possible reunion, Delaney must outsmart the deadly criminal organization tracking their every move. Can she shield them long enough to find the truth…and possibly become part of the family she’s falling for?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Heather Woodhaven earned her pilot’s license, rode a hot air balloon over the safari lands of Kenya, assisted an engineer with a medical laser in a Haitian mission, parasailed over Caribbean seas, lived through an accidental detour onto a black diamond ski trail in the Aspens and snorkeled among sting rays before becoming a mother of three and wife of one. Now Heather spends her days celebrating laughter, adding to her impressive list of embarrassing moments, and raising a family of aspiring comedians who perform nightly at her table. She channels her love for adventure into writing characters who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances–whether running for their lives or battling the insanities of life.

MY REVIEW:
Like many other readers, I love a good romantic suspense but I definitely prefer that all the suspense stay between the covers of a book and does not intrude upon my personal life. I cannot imagine how I would even begin to deal with the scenarios encountered by Grace Callahan, heroine of A Secret to Die For. Yes, I am definitely a big chicken and intend to stay one.
When one of her clients is murdered on the same night that her home is invaded by an armed stranger, Grace’s life becomes a living nightmare. Someone believes she has information given her by the client and will stop at nothing to get it. With the help of Detective Nate Quinn, an old friend, Grace just manages to stay alive and is determined to help stop some dangerous men and possibly save millions.
A Secret to Die For is nearly nonstop action and suspense with plenty of mystery and romance to really keep it interesting. Plot twists abound and surprises are in store for the reader. This book was definitely a page turner and I finished it in record time. There just does not seem to be a good stopping place!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to others who love Christian romantic suspense.

Her only hope may be an old friend, Detective Nate Quinn, who has just been cleared for active duty after a bombing killed his partner and left him dealing with PTSD.

MY REVIEW:
I cannot imagine a Christmas season without a new Christmas novella by Melody Carlson. Often poignant, these stories nevertheless leave me with hope for humankind and always pleased by how the story ends.
A Christmas By the Sea was another soul-satisfying read by Ms. Carlson. I loved the characters, especially Caleb, Wendy, and Jackson who seemed to belong together from the start. I loved seeing Seaside, Maine through their eyes and could almost imagine myself there with them. Although the story was not preachy, I loved seeing God at work in the lives of these precious characters.
If you have not read any of Melody Carlson’s Christmas novellas, A Christmas By the Sea would be a good place to start. You might just find yourself collecting them like I do.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Wendy couldn’t believe she was standing here discussing toilets with a perfect stranger. Not
that he was perfect–although he was rather attractive. But he was obviously enjoying her discomfort a bit too much.
He eased the bulky box from the shelf and onto the floor, leaning it against his leg. “So . . . you’re new in town?”
“Not exactly.” She watched as he easily picked up the container. Was he trying to be friendly or actually hitting on her?
When Wendy Harper inherits her family’s beachside cottage in Seaside, Maine, she sees it as a way to finally pay off the debts that have mounted since her husband died. Her twelve-year-old son Jackson sees it as an exciting new start in a life that has grown rather gray without his father.
Before it can be sold, the neglected property must be renovated. Wendy and Jackson move in–temporarily, she reminds him–in order to fix the place up before Christmas. But the charming town, along with local craftsman Caleb Colton, pulls on Wendy. She knows that the most responsible thing to do is to sell the cottage and return to Ohio, but the lure of the sea–and a fresh start–is hard to resist.

MY REVIEW:
I purchased copy of Shadows From the Past then agreed to review it for Celebrate Lit without realizing it was the same book. I purchased based on the description that made me think it was I book I would enjoy.
First of all, I understand that the author is fairly young and inexperienced when it comes to writing a book and I cannot expect her book to be on the same level as the more seasoned authors I follow. The premise of her story is excellent with an intriguing plot and good characters. However, I did become more than a little impatient with all the introspection and the minimal amount of action and suspense. For once I was happy to see a book reach its end.
Nevertheless, I can see a lot of potential in this author and hope that she will pay attention to her reviews and will learn from any criticism in order to make her books stronger in the future. In the past year I have had the opportunity to read some very early novels by one of my very favorite suspense novelists and believe me, the improvement in her writing has been quite evident over the years. Everyone has to start somewhere and I believe Ashley Dawn has the potential to become a best selling author if she will continue to work at her craft and learn from her mistakes.
