Wait For Me By Susan May Warren

MY REVIEW:

Every time I finish a book by Susan May Warren I am convinced that it is the best one she has ever written and somehow or another, she surpasses it with the next one. Surely it was not humanly possible to write a novel better than Storm Front or Troubled Waters… but she did it again! Wait For Me took the suspense and action up more than one notch as far as I was concerned. If I was not sympathizing with Jess and Pete or feeling their pain, I was holding my breath as they entered one death defying situation after another.

The Montana Rescue series could not have been wrapped up in a more satisfying way. All the loose ends from the previous books were tied up into a neat bow and everyone who belonged together ended up that way. I will definitely miss all the PEAK team and their friends and associates but I rest assured that the author is already at work on another series just as awesome as this one. Not to say that I will be especially patient as I wait for the next book. Hope it won’t bee too long!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

With Jess and Pete, every day is lived at full throttle.
Now if they can only stay alive to enjoy it.

Pete Brooks can’t believe he’s waited an entire year for EMT Jess Tagg to return to Montana, only to have her break his heart. Worse, a series of mistakes on the job has cost lives, and Pete isn’t sure he wants to continue to work in search and rescue. Maybe if he can just get over Jess, he can figure out how to move forward.

When a terrible fight between Jess and Pete sparks an impulsive decision, Jess finds herself crashed on the side of a highway along with two others. Just when Jess thinks things couldn’t get any worse, they are taken captive and dragged into the untamed Montana wilderness–with murderous intent.

Now Pete will have to call on everything he’s learned to find them–and pray that his past mistakes don’t cost him the life of the woman he can’t stop loving.

Shadows of Suspicion by Ashley Dawn

MY REVIEW:

When revenge turns into obsession, things tend to get dicey and Kerry finds herself in the middle of it. After her brother sends a friend to rescue her, then asks him to be her bodyguard until the danger is over, Kerry fights him every step of the way. She only wants her life back and is determined that she can take care of herself. Naturally Kerry finds herself growing more dependent on Luke and could she even be falling for him?

Shadows of Suspicion has a fairly fast-moving plot populated with some interesting characters. Readers will find plenty of suspense and unexpected twists before the end of the story. Faith plays a prominent role in Kerry’s life and helped keep her strong throughout the ordeal. I enjoyed meeting up again with members of Kerry’s family and look forward to seeing what happens to some of them in future books of this series.

Lethal Target by Janice Cantore

MY REVIEW:

I always expect a riveting, suspense filled story when I pick up a book by Janice Cantore and Lethal Target did not disappoint. I particularly found the setting of interest because my daughter and her husband moved across the country to Oregon as traveling physical therapy assistants and their first assignment was in Grants Pass, right on the Rogue river. All I can say is that I’m thankful that the books in Cantore’s Line of Duty series are fiction!

With vivid descriptions, genuine characters, plenty of action and suspense, and a touch of romance, Lethal Target held my interest until the very end. I appreciated the fact that due to her father’s death Tess had major issues with accepting the Lord but loved that the author showed her journey toward faith in small steps that gave me hope for her eventual salvation.

There is a lot going on in Lethal Target with multiple twists, turns, and surprises in store. Of course there is at least one more book in this series so I will have to be content to wait along with other readers to find out how everything works out, especially which man Tess will choose. If you have not read any of this author’s books and are a fan of suspense novels featuring law enforcement, be sure to give Lethal Target a chance; however you might want to begin with Crisis Shot, book one of the series.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Police Chief Tess O’Rourke thought she’d taken care of her small town’s drug problem last year. But now Rogue’s Hollow residents are up in arms over a contentious vote on legalizing the sale of marijuana within city limits. And when an eighteen-year-old is found dead of a possible overdose, Tess wonders if the local pot farms might be involved and begins to fear that a new, deadlier drug supply chain has cropped up. As tempers flare and emotions boil over, Tess faces the possibility of losing the town’s support.

With her relationship to Sergeant Steve Logan on shaky ground, Tess could really use a friend, and she feels drawn to Pastor Oliver Macpherson’s quiet presence. But the anger she holds over her father’s death prevents her from embracing his faith and finding peace.

Battling storms within and without, Tess is shocked when a familiar face from her past shows up in town to stir up more trouble. And his threats against Tess may prove lethal.

When You Look at Me by Pepper Basham

MY REVIEW:

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a novel in which both the primary romantic characters are introverts but it definitely works in When You Look At Me. This was a story that yanked at my heartstrings but was at the same time so very positive and uplifting.

Although an assault had left Julia broken and wary of men, her mostly positive attitude, good humor, and reliance on the Lord made her a character I could love. And Henry, my goodness, was the perfect man for Julia! Although he too had a wounded spirit that left him determined to remain single, he recognized Julia’s needs and responded in such a gentle and protective manner. As an introvert myself, I could find myself just a bit jealous of Julia but I realize that men with the sensitivity of Henry are most likely a rare breed.

Aside from Julia and Henry, it was fun to catch up with Wes and Eisley from Just the Way You Are as well as other members of the Jenkins family. The plot moved along at a steady rate and taking me from laughing out loud to anger or sympathy for the way Julia and Henry had been treated. The mysterious addition of a family secret added even more interest to their story.

I loved When You Look at Me and can barely wait for another novel by Pepper Basham. I will definitely be checking out some of her earlier books asap.

An unexpected mother-to-be
A romance-leery composer
And a forgotten melody from the past that holds the keys to their futures

When Julia Jenkins’ great aunt dies and leaves her a Victorian mansion with decades of secrets, Julia never expects to unearth a World War 2 espionage mystery. Struggling with her own past since an assault left her pregnant, her future as a solo parent leaves her dreams uncertain. The inheritance from her great aunt gives Julia the ability to take a step back into her future, but also sends her into the discovery of a love story she’d never anticipated. As she goes through her aunt’s treasured possessions, Julia uncovers some oddly written piano music with a musical code she can’t decipher on her own. Not to worry, introverted Englishman and composer, Henry Wright, is thrust on the scene by a pair of homespun matchmakers who know the ‘right’ man for Julia’s wounded heart.

Henry arrives in Pleasant Gap with the task of composing the soundtrack for his best mate’s newest film. The Jenkins’ family’s southern welcome and gregarious personalities set his reticent nature on edge, but he’s inexplicably drawn to his gentle and music-loving hostess, Julia. Uncertain how to build a friendship with the wounded woman, and rather hopeless in communicating well through words, the bond of music becomes a bridge between her uncertainty and his awkwardness.

But her broken past and his families’ expectations build a wall much greater than the cultures that separate them. As they work together to solve a musical mystery from the grave, will an unlikely romance from the past inspire their hearts to trust in a God who’s written the perfect melody for their lives?
