MY REVIEW:

A Claim of Her Own is the tale of spunky Mattie O’Keefe who has left her cruel, domineering boss in Abilene, Texas in search of her brother in the gold fields of Deadwood, South Dakota. When she arrives, she finds that things are not as she expected and is forced to change her original plans. As she settles into life in Deadwood, she finds herself befriended by an unusual group – Swede, a woman freighter and her mentally handicapped son Freddie, Aunt Lou, the cook at the Grand Hotel, Tom English, a storekeeper, and Aron Gallagher, a street preacher. Mattie soon learns the true meaning of friendship and trust as she meets multiple challenges in her life.

The historical details of the area and gold mining were interesting and informative. The characters were well developed with traits that made me care about them. I would have liked to see a little more interaction between Mattie and her romantic interest but overall the story was very satisfying and held my interest until the end. I look forward to the next installment.
