MY REVIEW:
Julie Cave’s Pieces of Light was everything I expected it to be and more. The story showcased events that were so realistic they could have come right out of today’s news. Although as far as I know, most of the accounts are purely fictional and have not yet occurred, at times this tale almost seems to be prophetic.
The narrative is told in two distinct time frames. In one, the reader examines the journal of a man in prison who turns out to be the perpetrator of the crimes investigated by Dinah Harris a year earlier. Although this journal makes it obvious that the crimes were solved, the story behind it is no less interesting.
Dinah Harris has come a long way since the first book of this series. Her life is pretty much back in order, she has made peace with her feelings of guilt, and she is beginning to be ready to move on with it – maybe even to the point of letting another man into her life. Her detective skills are keenly honed and her people skills have improved. Her newly found faith has given her a reason to live and more grace for the people she encounters.
Pieces of Light is at times chilling with its frightening predictions of where our society could be headed. To me, even more frightening than the disturbed bomber was the coldly deliberate actions of the senator whose plans to eliminate Christianity were strictly for his own evil purposes.
I have to give Julie Cave credit where it is due. Not only does she write page turning, action packed suspense, but she is totally unafraid to openly insert her beliefs into her stories. Several other reviewers have complained of this but I congratulate her on her audacity. We need more Christians willing to stand up for what they believe without compromising their message because it might offend.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
What if your spiritual authority abused you? How could you accept the love of God when His earthly representative only brought you pain and shame? Just how long could you contain your rage?
In Pieces of Light, detective Dinah Harris hunts down a serial bomber targeting religious icons and buildings. The bomber is on a mission to rid the city of religion and establish a ‘new world order’. Can someone so intent on ridding the world of God experience redemption? What lies behind his hatred of God? Will his darkened soul search for pieces of light?
Pieces of Light is the third book in Julie Cave’s Dinah Harris mystery series. The first two books of the series, Deadly Disclosure and The Shadowed Mind reveal the amazing grace of God while showcasing a world losing sight of Him. In Pieces of Light, Cave continues her compelling storylines using believable characters and realistic situations to:
- Identify the importance of living under the authority of the Bible
- Deliver a Biblical worldview perspective to current events
- Illustrate the power of Jesus’s sacrifice and desire to redeem every life
- Provide believers a resource easy to share with skeptics
Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis described The Shadowed Mind (book two) as “another nail-biting mystery with an incredibly powerful message about God’s authoritative Word.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
At fifteen, two things happened which would shape Julie Cave’s future: she heard a creation science speaker at her church which cemented her faith in God; and she finished her second novel-length story and realised she had fallen in love with writing novels. Julie lives with her family in Australia, where she divides her time between being a wife, a mother and an author.
