Bruce Hennigan was born and raised in the isolated countryside of Shreveport, La., a place full of possibilities for the active mind of a young boy. The fertile imagination he cultivated while playing deep in the Louisiana woods would lead to a lifelong love of creative writing.
In 2006, Hennigan pursued the Certified Apologetic Instructor Certificate from the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He has become a frequent speaker at regional and state events on apologetics and his strong point is in making these sometimes hard to understand issues easily approachable for the average Christian. Hennigan’s experience in apologetics inspired him to write his new novel, The 13th Demon: Altar of the Spiral Eye, a supernatural Christian thriller that combines science and faith. Now, combining his love for apologetics and his love for the art of writing, Hennigan is pursuing a career as the “Michael Crichton” of Christian fiction building powerful, fast paced stories around the truths of Christian apologetics.

“The Opposite of Art” is one of those books that is a true literary gem. The story is so multi-layered and so filled with metaphors and vivid imagery that a person could probably read it several times and still not glean all its buried treasure. Many of the character names have hidden symbolism that applies not only to the character but to the overall story.
The primary character is Sheridan Riddler, a narcissistic but brilliant artist whose near death experience sends him on a pilgrimage to recapture the “glory” he experienced. Convinced his talent can reproduce what he so briefly glimpsed, Riddler’s quest takes him around the world to learn the secrets of varied religions in hope that one will provide the answers he seeks. Over and over again he is disappointed to find that religion only provides a shadow of the truth he tasted.
To be honest, I didn’t much like Sheridan Riddler – possibly because he is too much like me and his journey was vaguely familiar. Aren’t we all seeking the same truth Riddler longed to find? At the same time, we are all just as stubbornly looking for someone else to provide the answers.
Although “The Opposite of Art” is discreetly and tastefully written, many Christians may be offended by the author’s honest representation of Riddler’s immoral lifestyle. Yet how can there be redemption without sin?
The beauty of “The Opposite of Art” is that there are so many lessons within it. Today I can tell you that it illustrates our search for God for all the wrong reasons and in all the wrong places. Tomorrow I may have a different understanding of what I read. I recommend “The Opposite of Art” but only if you are prepared for a story that will make you think.

MY REVIEW:
Attracted to Fire is another of DiAnn Mills riveting c0ntemporary novels that feature various branches of law enforcement. In this one, the primary characters Meghan Connor and Ash Zinders are special agents in the Secret Service. The pair meets when they are both assigned to protect the Vice President’s daughter as she once again goes through drug and alcohol rehab because of repeated threats to her life.
Because of past events, hard-nosed Ash has no use for female agents on his team and is unhappy with Meghan’s assignment. As dangerous incidents escalate, Meghan demonstrates her skill, insight, and dedication time and again. Not only does Ash begin to change his mind about her value to the team but begins to view her in an even more personal light.
With expertly developed plot and characters, Attracted to Fire kept me turning the pages. The story contained ample action, danger, suspense, and drama to hold my interest and the romantic elements were an added bonus. Twists and surprises abound. Although the person behind the threats is revealed to the reader fairly early in the narrative, it is still interesting to learn how the agents finally solve the identity of the culprit and accomplices.
I recommend Attracted to Fire as well as the other novels of DiAnn Mills.
I finished reading “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” a few hours ago but as I sit here gathering my thoughts to review it, I still find myself tearing up. This story contains such a powerful message of hope and love that it touched something deep within me. I have read most of Susan May Warren’s novels and have come to expect a high standard of excellence from her. I always enjoy her books and usually glean something extra from them but there is something about “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” that makes it particularly special. This story would be perfect for a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Featuring four people who weather a winter storm together in a storm house, this story is one of restoration and healing. Each of the characters labors under false perceptions about themselves and the others are used to speak truth into their lives. I really don’t know how to describe this book without totally giving away the plot. Just let me say that it is one you absolutely don’t want to pass up. I loved it and consider it to be required Christmas reading. It will join the other books in my Christmas book basket.
