She paused for a moment, staring into the eyes of her guest, attempting to ascertain whether he was sincere or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

She sat back in her chair and stared at him, making no attempt to hide her skepticism.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou still think I\u2019m crazy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFully,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor argument\u2019s sake, let\u2019s say you\u2019re right. I <\/span>am <\/em><\/span>crazy. Indulge me, as a public service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She smiled.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll indulge you, Mr. Kaplan, but there\u2019s a limit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNouriel. You can call me Nouriel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

At that, she got up from her chair and motioned for him to do likewise. She led him away from her desk to a small round conference table where the two sat down. The table was situated in<\/span><\/p>\n

front of a huge glass window through which one could see a vast panorama of skyscrapers with similar windows, each reflecting the light of the afternoon sun.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, Nouriel. Tell me about your mystery.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not <\/span>my <\/em><\/span>mystery. It\u2019s much bigger than me. You have no idea how big, or what it involves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what does it involve?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEverything. It involves everything, and it explains everything .?.?.?everything that\u2019s happened, that\u2019s happening, and everything that\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBehind September 11 .?.?.?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow could an ancient mystery possibly have anything to do with September 11?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo how far back does it go?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTwo and a half thousand years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old mystery behind what\u2019s happening in the twenty-first century from politics to the economy to foreign affairs\u2014all that and you\u2019re the only one who knows about it?\u201d<\/wbr><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the only one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWho else knows about it?\u201d she asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s at least one other.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot the government? The government has no idea, even though it\u2019s behind all that?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I know, no government, no intelligence agency, no one else.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo one but you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd at least one other.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd how did you happen to discover it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t discover it,\u201d he answered. \u201cIt was given to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGiven? By whom?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA man.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd who was this man?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

At this she leaned forward and spoke to him in a tone both intense and slightly sarcastic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTry me,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou won\u2019t understand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd where did <\/span>he <\/em><\/span>get the mystery from?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA mystery on which the nation\u2019s future is hanging, and no one knows where it came from?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom where do prophets get their messages?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cProphets!\u201d she said. \u201cSo now we\u2019re talking prophets?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs in Isaiah .?.?.?Jeremiah?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSomething like that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe last time I heard about prophets I was in Sunday school, Nouriel. Prophets don\u2019t exist anymore. They\u2019ve been gone for ages.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo you\u2019re telling me that the man who gave you this revelation is a prophet?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSomething like that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe told you he was a prophet?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo. He never came out and said it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you believe all this because it came from a prophet?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d he answered. \u201cIt wouldn\u2019t have mattered who said it. It\u2019s not about the messenger; it\u2019s about the message.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo why are you telling <\/span>me <\/em><\/span>all this? Why did you come here? I\u2019m not exactly known for dealing with anything remotely like this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the stakes are so high. Because the future is hanging on it. Because it affects millions of people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you think I have a part in this?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReally?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She leaned back in her chair and stared at him for a moment, intrigued, amused, and still trying to figure him out.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, Nouriel, tell me how it all began.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He reached into his coat pocket, laid his closed hand down on the table, then opened it. In the middle of his palm was a small object of reddish, golden-brown clay, circular and about two inches in diameter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt all began with this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He handed it to her. She began examining it. The more she looked at it, the more intrigued she became. It was covered with what appeared to be ancient inscriptions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what is it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a seal,\u201d he answered. \u201cIt\u2019s the first seal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nMY REVIEW:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am running behind on my reading and am only about halfway through The Harbinger<\/a>. Although I don’t know yet how it will end, I have read enough to believe that this book should be placed in the hands of every member of Congress as well as any other person of influence in our nation. Perhaps its message would influence enough of our leaders to avert disaster.<\/p>\n

Although in the form of a novel, the author has used actual facts in conjunction with biblical truth to reveal what he believes is a warning to the United States. A reference section at the back of the book includes all the pertinent scriptures, names, speeches, etc. so that the reader can verify what he has read. Even though I have not read it all, I am convinced that his work of fiction is in fact something we should take to heart. Current history only confirms that rather than repent and turn back to the Lord after the events of September 11, our nation has continued its open defiance of Him. Actions by our current administration are good examples of this. This book is another wake up call to the United States. I pray that it is not too late.
