Her new life as Martha Washington took her through blissful times at Mount Vernon, family tragedies, six years of her husband’s absence during the Revolutionary War, and her position as a reluctant First Lady.<\/p>\n

Known for moving first-person novels of Nannerl Mozart and Jane Austen, in Washington’s Lady<\/a>, Nancy Moser now brings to life the loves and trials of the First First Lady of the United States.<\/p>\n

MY REVIEW:<\/h3>\n

Many more years have passed than I would like to admit since I studied American History in high school. Historical fiction was always much more appealing to me because I was more interested in the people involved in the history and how they felt rather than mere dates and facts.I don’t remember very much about Martha Washington except for the fact that she was George’s wife and a portrait of her with white hair that made me think of a sweet, old grandmother. I remember very little more about George other than the hard, dry facts in the history books and the stories children are told about wooden teeth and cutting down the cherry tree as a boy.<\/p>\n

In Washington’s Lady<\/a>, I was able to see both Martha and George as living, breathing people – humans who loved and lost, laughed and wept, rejoiced and grieved. I learned the background history of their lives that formed them into the people they were. I saw Martha’s strength as she was able to overcome great loss and grief through her faith. Although very dependent upon George, Martha encouraged and supported George in everything he undertook. Their devotion to each other was so apparent. And, in Washington’s Lady<\/a>, I was given a glimpse of the formation of our nation through the eyes and emotions of those who were there.<\/p>\n

I would definitely recommend Washington’s Lady<\/a>, especially to those who love historical fiction.
