It is similar to the one Ree over at <strong>Pioneer Woman Cooks<\/strong> calls   <em><strong>The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever. <\/strong><\/em>The only difference I can find is that my recipe includes a teaspoon of cinnamon and is cooked in a 9 X 13 inch pan rather than a jelly roll pan. So my cake is a little thicker than Ree&#8217;s and has a subtle cinnamon flavor that enhances the taste but leaves most people wondering what makes the cake different. You can leave out the cinnamon if you like and\/or bake it in a larger pan if you would rather have a thinner layer. We think it is just perfect the way it is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I got my original recipe approximately forty years ago in Home Ec class. A new girl at school\u00a0 brought the recipe for us to try in class. (Was it a coincidence that she was from Texas?)\u00a0 This cake is so good that it has been a family staple ever since.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>TEXAS CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">2 cups flour<br \/>\n 2 cups sugar<br \/>\n 1\/2\u00a0 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n 2 sticks butter<br \/>\n 3 tablespoons cocoa<br \/>\n 2\u00a0 eggs &#8212; well beaten<br \/>\n 1 teaspoon soda<br \/>\n 1\/2\u00a0 cup buttermilk<br \/>\n 1 teaspoon vanilla<br \/>\n 1 teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n 1 cup water<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sift flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together.\u00a0 In saucepan, add butter, water and cocoa and bring to boil.\u00a0 Pour this over flour mixture. In another bowl, beat eggs, soda, buttermilk and vanilla.\u00a0 Add this to flour and chocolate mixture and mix well.\u00a0 Place in greased and floured 9 X 13-inch pan.\u00a0 Bake at 350\u00b0 until done &#8211; about 25 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>ICING:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">1 stick margarine<br \/>\n 1 box powdered sugar<br \/>\n 3 tablespoons cocoa<br \/>\n 1\/2 cup nuts<br \/>\n 6 tablespoons milk<br \/>\n 1 teaspoon vanilla<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">About 10 minutes before cake is done, mix all ingredients except sugar and nuts in saucepan\u00a0 and heat until butter is melted. Do not boil.\u00a0 Remove from heat, add sugar and beat well. Stir in nuts.\u00a0 Pour and spread over cake as soon as it comes out of oven.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This cake almost always gets rave reviews.
