Imagine my surprise when I found a heroine that I absolutely could not endure! How on earth was I to relate to this self-absorbed, spoiled brat enough to get involved in the story? I kept reading and found April to be a host of contradictions and pretty entertaining. I even enjoyed seeing her get her comeuppance a time or two.

To my delight I witnessed an incredible change in April and the way she learned to relate to others. Maggie Brendan had a plan for the spoiled daddy’s girl after all – a plan to illustrate the magnificent transformation undergone by each person who turns to the Lord and His guidance. A Love of Her Own is a testimony and a lesson in faith and forgiveness. Not only that but it has some wonderful characters, especially Miss Margaret, an older woman who mentors April with tact and wisdom. Then, not to be overlooked, there is a sweet romance between April and Wes, a cowboy whose own ego has been badly trampled.

So, although A Love of Her Own may have started off on the wrong foot for me, I have to admit it is probably my favorite of the three Heart of the West books. Set in the small frontier town of Lewistown, Montana, A Love of Her Own is full of the history and excitement of the old west with a narrative that draws you in and makes you feel like you are there. This book is a must read for all lovers of historical fiction, especially those like me who love a good western romance.

“Available June 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”

This book was provided for review by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

She has everything her heart desires . . .
except the one thing money can’t buy

A Love of Her Own is the eagerly awaited concluding book in Maggie Brendan’s Heart of the West series.
