\"\"<\/a>Far away from her Irish home, Mary Freeman begins to adapt to life in Midwest America, but family turmoil and her own haunting memories threaten to ruin her future.<\/p>\n

Bitter voices asking what’s to be done with the “little eejit.” Mary, an impetuous Irishwoman, won’t face the haunting memories–until her daughter’s crisis propels her back to County Clare. There, in a rocky cliffside home, Mary learns from former neighbors why God tore her from Ireland forty-five years earlier. As she begins to glimpse His sovereign plan, Mary is finally able to bury a dysfunctional past and begin to heal. Irish folk songs and sayings add color to the narrative.<\/p>\n

MY REVIEW:<\/h3>\n

An Irishwomans’ Tale <\/a>was a difficult book to read. Each of the main characters had so much pain in their lives that affected the people closest to them, an unending, increasing circle of pain. This book illustrates so clearly that events in a child’s life can shape their entire life, especially when their understanding of what happened is skewed. And when the adults in their life are dealing with their own issues that the child doesn’t understand, there is no wonder that the world is so full of dysfunctional people. One thing that An Irishwomans’ Tale<\/a> accomplished was to show how impossible it is to heal the pain without the Lord’s help and how only He can set the wounded free.<\/p>\n

I felt that Mary Elizabeth’s strengths and compassion were also fruit of her pain.\u00a0 Because of her feelings of rejection, she developed such mercy for the homeless that she fed at her own expense, even before her salvation. It is such a miracle how the Lord can take our suffering and turn it into strength and blessings for others if we let Him.<\/p>\n
