My husband and I just finished watching “Unstoppable”, an independent film narrated by actor Kirk Cameron. Struggling himself with the age-old question of “why do bad things happen to good people”, Kirk attempts to offer hope to those who suffer. Beginning with the creation story and ending with the resurrection Kirk illustrates the consequences of man’s rebellion and sin through history.
Kirk’s passion for Christ and his drive to share God’s truth with others and to encourage them in their Christian walk is evident throughout the entire film. Personal stories are interspersed with Biblical examples in this relatively short documentary. Kirk’s emotions were apparent as he described the death of a young friend that inspired the making of this film. I felt that Kirk was both eloquent and concise with his message.
Kirk may or may not have answered the question to everyone’s satisfaction but we felt that his conjectures were valid and encouraging as well as thought provoking. Watching this DVD with a group could be an excellent springboard for discussion.

ABOUT UNSTOPPABLE
Inspired by the death of Cameron’s close friend who succumbed to cancer at the age of 15, Kirk Cameron takes viewers on an inspiring and hope-filled visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: “Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?”
Going back to the beginning—literally—Kirk investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. UNSTOPPABLEwill prompt audiences to consider the role that pain and suffering has in our lives, as they affirm their personal views on faith, and encourage conversation starters about God, suffering, and hope.
In theaters for only two weeknights (Sept 24th and Oct 3th, 2013), UNSTOPPABLE: A Live Event with Kirk Cameron sold a staggering 260,000 tickets and reached a theatrical gross of over $3.2 million dollars. In just two nights this independent project sent a loud message – audiences want thought-provoking and meaningful entertainment.
Kirk Cameron is best known for his memorable role as “Mike Seaver,” a cultural icon of the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool glasses, and wisecracking comebacks. More recently he enjoyed much success with the No. 1 grossing inspirational film of 2008, Fireproof, and his recent documentary, Monumental. Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, were on-screen sweethearts during their Growing Pains years and are the founders of Camp Firefly, where terminally and seriously ill children and their families are provided an all-expense paid retreat (www.CampFirefly.com). Together, Kirk and Chelsea live in California with their six children.

I am sure that everyone thought I had forgotten about them because I am several days late announcing the winner of the DVD giveaway. What with one thing and another, it kept slipping my mind. But as they say, “better late than never!”
There were a total of eight comments and I was surprised at how many of you either have or know someone who has a child with Asperger’s Syndrome. I had never heard of it until late last year when I learned that someone I have known for over 25 years has it. Once I knew a little about it, a light came on that explained several things that had always frustrated me about this person. What a blessing it is to finally know that there is a logical explanation for what seemed to be very odd behavior.
I listed and numbered the names in the order the comments were posted then used the random generator at http://random.org to choose my winner. That winner is none other than Deanna. Deanna, if you will send me your mailing address, I will get it to the publicist who has promised to mail out the winning copy of the DVD.
Thanks to everyone who entered. I wish I could give each one of your a copy. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my blog and will continue to visit.
“A Mile in His Shoes” is a family friendly movie sure to appeal to those who love sports or those who usually root for the underdog. Those who have been jaded by big money special effects Hollywood offerings may find this film a bit tame for their tastes. But anyone who enjoys a feel-good movie that is not embarrassing to watch with their kids will find it a refreshing choice.
The featured character, Mickey suffers from a form of autism know as Asperger’s Syndrome that makes him very different from his peers. His experiences as a new member of a minor league baseball team could very easily be the topics of several conversations such as how to treat people different from ourselves or the difference encouragement can make in a person’s life.
I won’t go into details about the plot because there are sufficient reviews available that do so and I do hate to watch a movie after the plot has been revealed to me. No spoilers here. Just be assured that unless you are extremely picky and/or cynical, “A Mile in His Shoes” should provide an enjoyable family movie night.

ABOUT THE DVD:
From the director of “Angels in the Outfield” comes an inspiring story about a special boy with an amazing gift, and the coach who believed. Dean Cain and Luke Schroder star in the gmc movie based on the book “The Legend of Mickey Tussler”.
Only a miracle can help baseball coach Arthur ‘Murph’ Murphy (Dean Cain) and his losing minor league baseball team. As Murph sets out to recruit new talent for the team, he stumbles upon Mickey (Luke Schroder), a young farmer with an incredible pitcher’s arm. However, Mickey’s parents are reluctant in allowing him to join the team because he has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. Murph convinces Mickey’s parents that life in the minor league will benefit their unique son, but he doesn’t realize just how much his new recruit will help the team s game and, more importantly, their spirit. Based on a true story, Thomas Kinkade Presents: A Mile in His Shoes is an inspirational film that celebrates faith, determination and the power of friendship.

Okay, I admit it, despite frequent ridicule, I actually enjoy Hallmark movies. In my opinion, Christmas Lodge falls into the same category of cozy, feel-good movies that are appropriate for the entire family or for those who just do not care for many of the current TV and movie offerings.
Christmas Lodge is a story of faith, hope, love of family, and following the path the Lord has for you. A sweet romance takes center stage but the interaction between Mary and her family, particularly her grandfather, were quite heart-warming. As a voracious reader, I wished for a bit more communication between Mary and Jack but I realize that the limited time of the medium precludes that option. Movies just require a bit more of my imagination even if I can actually see the action as it takes place.
I enjoyed Christmas Lodge and its positive message, however the breathtaking scenery and the architecture of the lodge and the Arts and Crafts home of Mary’s parents really captured my attention. More than once I found myself wishing for a home like either of them. It was like watching a Thomas Kinkade painting come to life.
I would absolutely recommend Christmas Lodge for a relaxing family movie night to help get in the holiday spirit as Christmas approaches.

SYNOPSIS:
Thomas Kinkade presents Christmas Lodge: a place where a heart-warming past and loving future meet for one remarkable group of people. During a weekend trip to the mountains, Mary (Erin Karpluk) finds herself at the now- dilapidated lodge where she spent the holidays with her family growing up. She becomes determined to restore the building to its former glory. Inspired by her grandfather and guided by her grandmother in heaven, Mary throws herself into the project, and during the process finds herself drawn to Jack (Michael Shanks), a handsome man who loves the lodge as much as she does. Historically unlucky in love, this chance encounter allows Mary to renew her faith in life and discover her one true love. For an uplifting story about the importance of faith, family and the true holiday spirit, go to the Christmas Lodge.
