MY REVIEW:
The Crushing Depths gets off to a rousing start and the action rarely stops until it reaches its somewhat unexpected end. I love how true-to-life the author forms her characters with none of their human strengths and frailties hidden from view. The camaraderie between the characters is a pleasure to observe with touches of humor in the midst of danger and tragedy, much like real life. I also enjoy how characters cross between books so that their stories continue alongside the featured heroes of the current novel.
I will keep this review short because I certainly do not want to reveal any spoilers. This story is action packed and filled with danger, suspense, tragedy, loyalty and dedication with a bit of faith, humor, and romance woven in for good measure. Lovers of suspense cannot go wrong with a novel by Dani Pettrey and The Crushing Depths is a fine example of her talent.

They know the power and peril of the ocean.
But as they get closer to the deadly truth…
An even greater danger lurks just beneath the surface.
When an accident claims the life of an oil-rig worker on the first drilling platform off the North Carolina coast, Coast Guard investigators Rissi Dawson and Mason Rogers are sent to take the case. Tensions surrounding the oil rig are high and the death has everyone on edge. Environmental activists are threatening to do whatever it takes to stop the structure from being completed, while rumors are being whispered about ancient curses surrounding this part of the ocean.
Mounting evidence shows the death may not have been an accident at all. Was he killed by one of the activists or, perhaps more frighteningly, a member of his own crew? Rissi and Mason have to sort through not only a plethora of suspects, but also their own past and attraction to each other.
Just as the case seems like it’ll break open, worse news arrives. A tropical storm has turned their way and soon they’re cut off from any rescue–and right where the killer wants them. It’s a race to discover his identity before he eliminates the threat they pose.

MY REVIEW:
The author, Ronie Kendig, has taken a Biblical reference in the book of Numbers to an obscure and presumably lost Book of Wars and built a fantastic yet mostly believable tale. It is one of those books that can quickly grab the reader, pull her in, and not let her surface for air until the very end. This is not a book you want to begin at bedtime because you most assuredly will not get any sleep if you do.
Action-packed from page one, the narrative takes Leif and Iskra on a dangerous journey through strange and violent weather events and against a host of enemies determined to gain control of the lost book. Vivid descriptions help the reader experience everything as though there. Unexpected twists and revealed secrets added to the experience and kept me wanting to know more.
Storm Rising may just be the best book I’ve read from this author to date and I have enjoyed quite a few of her novels. If you love a book with a dynamic hero and plenty of action, danger, and suspense, then Storm Rising should be the next book on your TBR list. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this one!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Does an Ancient Book of Prophecy Hold the Answers to Saving the World . . . Or Predict Its Destruction?
Mentioned in the pages of the Old Testament but lost to history, the Book of the Wars has resurfaced, and its pages hold secrets–and dangers–never before seen on earth.
Tasked with capturing the ancient text, former Navy SEAL Leif Metcalfe is once more given command of his own team. But their best efforts are ruined when a notorious Bulgarian operative known as Viorica snatches the volume right out from under them.
Iskra “Viorica” Todorova is determined to use the book to secure the thing that matters most–freedom. But a series of strange storms erupts around the globe, and the coming dangers foretold in the text threaten crops, lives, and entire nations. Though both are haunted by secrets of the past and neither trusts the other, Leif and Iskra must form an uneasy alliance to thwart impending disaster. However, the truth hidden in centuries-old words could unleash a storm of their own destruction.

MY REVIEW:
For some reason I cannot resist a novel by Ronie Kendig. Before I even opened “Hawk” I knew I would be in for a fast-paced and emotional ride and for a moment I thought to myself, “I’m just not up to it right now.” But I had received a copy in good faith that I would review it and because my review calendar somehow got way overloaded, I was already running behind on getting a review in. Of course all it took was one chapter (or less) and I was sucked right into the middle of the action.
Once more I found myself surrounded by men and women dedicated to the other members of their team despite the sometimes desperate circumstances they faced. In the second novel of The Quiet Professionals series, Raptor continued to be toyed with by an unknown terrorist who had somehow gained access to confidential intel.
Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe struggles with issues that date back to his childhood – issues that could send him home in disgrace if he doesn’t’ get them under control. Fekiria Haidary has a few secrets that make her actions seem suspicious but Brian cannot get her out of his mind. Fekiria has responded to Brian the same but any relationship between them is impossible. They soon find themselves involved in a fight for their own lives and the lives of others.
“Hawk” is a book that was difficult to put down once I started reading it. Just had to know what would happen next. Of course it ended with a HUGE cliffhanger so now I have to wait until the next installment to get the whole story. It is worth it though. A great book in an excellent series! I recommend it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Raptor’s communications expert, Staff Sergeant Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe is struggling with his inner demons, leaving him on the verge of an “other than honorable” discharge. Plagued with corrupted intel, Raptor team continues to track down the terrorist playing chess with their lives. Afghan pilot Fekiria Haidary is devastated when a systems glitch on her aircraft forces a weapons launch on a safe target. And when the deadly bombing separates Brian from the team, he must make an impossible choice: save his brothers-in-arms, or save the woman and children depending on him to survive a brutal snowstorm.

MY REVIEW:
I’ll be honest – my adult son laughed when he saw the title of this book. I will admit, the title gives absolutely no indication of the intense, suspense-filled content within the covers of this novel. I sincerely hope that other readers will not pass it by because they would miss a real page turner.
Imagine if you will that you are kidnapped by a drug cartel along with an extremely deadly toxin that could destroy thousands of people if released – and they want you to develop a means to detonate it so they can extract revenge against a rival cartel. You are all alone in a jungle compound with ruthless men when you discover that your very best childhood friend who you haven’t heard from in a decade has been sent undercover to rescue you. Can you forgive him for his disappearance from you life and allow yourself to trust him to get you out of a hopeless situation?
That is exactly the scenario Jess McCoy found herself in the middle of when Will Gumble suddenly appears as another prisoner of the cartel. As he was forced to help her in the lab, the two of them tried to develop an escape plan. As the days grew short, so did their hope of escaping alive.
“Navy SEAL Noel” has a fast-paced plot with a suspense that keeps building. Although I knew that everything would work out in the end (it almost always does), there were times I had my doubts. I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Jess and Will and their eventual realization that without God’s intervention they had no hope. Great book about forgiveness and dependence on the Lord.

Excerpt From Navy SEAL Noel:
“Jess, calm down. I won’t hurt you.” The words made no sense to her muddled brain, but they continued, quiet and assured. “Don’t scream. It’s all right. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
It wasn’t the words that made her sink into him, but the voice that, even after all this time, she’d recognize anywhere. Her eyes hadn’t been playing tricks on her that afternoon. Will Gumble was in this compound. In her very room.
“I thought I saw you—I thought that was you, but…” Her words were little more than a whisper despite his assurance that it was safe to speak. Her stomach pitched, fear and relief mingling with alarm and the echo of a remembered betrayal. But dealing with her emotions would have to wait until she felt steadier on her feet. Exhaustion and the ebbing of her fight-or-flight adrenaline rush had left her legs like jelly. She leaned into Will. He held out his arms, as though he knew just what she needed. As though he was still someone who cared about taking care of her, being there for her.
But she didn’t want him holding her. She wanted answers. She wanted to understand what on earth was happening. Most of all, she wanted to silence the little voice in her head that kept saying Will’s appearance was simply a dream or hallucination.
Yanking herself upright at the last possible moment, she shoved his chest with both hands. “You scared me to death! Why did you break into my room? What are you doing here?”
His lopsided grin had always started with a little quirk to the left before spreading across his mouth. And that hadn’t changed, even as he looked down at the tiny black-and-white-checkered floor tiles.
He scraped his fingers over the black whiskers covering his chin. “Your dad sent me.”
“My dad?”
“Well, I couldn’t say no to my new XO, could I?”
“So you’re still in the navy?” Oh, she sounded bitter—so much more bitter than she wanted to. Why couldn’t her words be flippant and nonchalant, as if it didn’t really matter that she no longer knew even the most basic things about him? He’d popped back into her life, and she didn’t want it to matter.
But it did.
Maybe because of the extreme situation.
Sure. She’d just keep telling herself that.
His smile flickered for a moment before he nodded slowly. “I am.”
Forcing a chuckle, she said, “I figured when my dad realized I was missing, he’d send a SEAL team to bring me home.”
“Not a full team—he just sent one.”

MY REVIEW:
Ronie has really upped the ante with “Raptor 6”. I promise you, her books just keep getting better with each one published.
As a military suspense, “Raptor 6” is top notch. Heart-stopping scenes had me holding my breath – afraid to keep reading but unable to stop. I knew that everything would probably work out just fine at the end . . . but would it? The perfectly paced plot keep me turning the pages (and losing sleep) until I reached the end. Convincing characters and lifelike dialogue combined with action, danger, suspense, and a touch of romance for the perfect novel. If I had a complaint, it would be the fact that at least one element of the story was unresolved and I have to wait for the next installment of the series to learn more.
I certainly hope that the real life men and women in our armed forces share the courage and integrity portrayed by Ronie’s characters. If they experience even a fraction of what the men and women were exposed to in this book, our country owes them far more respect and honor than what has been shown by our government and citizens recently.
“Raptor 6” is definitely a must read book. Don’t wait too long to pick up a copy.

MY REVIEW:
Liz Johnson’s latest Love Inspired Suspense novel “SEAL Under Siege” offers the reader page-turning suspense coupled with a romance that develops despite adverse conditions. Navy SEAL Tristan Sawyer (L.T.) is a true hero who is devoted to protecting his country and its citizens. When Staci Hayes was rescued from a mideastern prison, she left with valuable information about pending terrorist activities that placed her life in danger. When no one would listen to her, she turned to the only other person she could trust – the man who rescued her.
Although “SEAL Under Siege” is a mass market paperback with a shorter length, the author has managed to expertly develop both the characters and a fast-moving and exciting plot. Not a word is wasted as Tristan and Staci race against time in their endeavor to keep Staci alive and circumvent what could be a devastating terrorist act. Both Staci and Tristan have secrets that they believe are obstacles to their chances for a permanent relationship but could it be possible that God has other plans for them?
“SEAL Under Siege” is a fun action-packed novel that once again illustrates the time proven theme of taking your hands off the situation and letting God handle it.
